Security Questions
Security questions are a tried and true method of verifying identity on online platforms. The image we include here is of questions asked of Canadians trying to access their Government Services account but they are also used by banks, insurance companies and others. Folks need to answer these questions in a way that matches what the platform expects (accurate response, including spelling, spaces, capital letters). And then folks must remember their answers for future log ins. People have a terrible time with these questions. The list of questions that are proposed are very biased. They include, for example: what was the model of your first car (this would not be appropriate for most low-income people) or What was the name of your father (this assumes that people have and know their father).
